In the name of Allah, Most gracious most merciful. The softener of hearts, the pardoner and granter of ease.
It is during this holy month of Ramadhan that one strives to renew their relationship with Allah and the Quran, with Allah through the Quran. For many of us, the Quran goes untouched all year long until Ramadhan. We expect to pick it up and read it in the same condition that we left last Ramadhan.
But if you think about it, who has true companionship in this type of relationship. If you only go to work once a year, or once a month would you expect to see the same pay check as if you went everyday? If you only only spend quality time with your spouse once a year, or once a month do you expect to have a close companionship and relationship with them? No, so why would we think our relationship with Allah or Quran is any different.
You get out of relationships that which you put into them, especially when it comes to the Quran and Allah(swt)
The prophet mentions in a Hadith Qudsi, that Allah ( swt) says.
“I am as my servant expects Me to be, and I am with him when he remembers me. If he thinks of Me, I think of him. If he mentions Me in company, I mention him in an even better company. When he comes closer to Me by a handspan, I come closer to him an arm’s length. If he draws closer to Me by an arm’s length, I draw closer by a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him. If my servant comes to Me walking, I go to him running.” (Al-Bukhari)
If you expect Allah to pardon your errors, to soften your heart, and grant you ease and you establish a relationhip with him that facilitates that. He will d just that. If you take time to remember him, he will remember you even more so. When you do that which draws your heart near to him he will draw even closer to you.
This is how you establish companionship with Allah and the Quran, but you have to maintain it. You must do these things consistently. For Allah( swt) mentions in the Quran,
“Now taste the reward for your forgetting the meeting of this Day – We too have forgotten you now…”
You can not forget about Allah and his book, only to go to it in need, or without much reflection. You can not go to Allah and his book and expect to find companionship when you have not done that which facilities such companionship.
I remind myself and those reading. Stay on the path of Allah, remember him often. Establish companionship with Allah and his book consistently. Fear, forgetting Allah, for if you forget him he will forget you.
